Specializing in counseling for children, adolescents, young adults and parenting skill training
Hello, I am Marci Morrison, LCSW, ACSW, Diplomate, Certified School Social Work Specialist. I was a School Social Worker for 35 years and a Crisis Intervention Specialist prior to working in schools. I specialize in counseling for children, adolescents, young adults, and also teach effective parenting skills. My focus at Positive Mind Therapy, LLC is to provide a positive, practical, evidence-based therapy practice to help with social, emotional, and mental/behavioral health concerns related to school issues, anxiety, stress, depression, anger management, ADHD, behavioral concerns, LGBTQ, grieving, social skills, self-esteem, crisis, self-harm, suicidal ideation and parenting concerns.
I moved from the North Suburbs of Chicago to North Phoenix in 2012. The sunshine and warmth in Arizona are amazing. I feel strength within me by working out throughout the week. I enjoy spending time with my husband, my family and my friends. I also loved hanging out with my Pet Therapy dogs in the past and am training my puppy to be a Pet Therapy dog currently.
My dream has always been to be a School Social Worker and also open a Private Counseling Practice one day. I was very lucky that I woke up each day to go to work and realized that I had an awesome position working as a School Social Worker. I finally achieved my second dream in November of 2018: The opening of my Social Work Private Practice, Positive Mind Therapy, LLC. I like to refer to my practice as PMT for short. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. Thank you for helping me reach my personal goal. Now, please let me help you. (Offering Individual and Group Counseling, Parenting Classes and Crisis Intervention in the Desert Ridge and North Scottsdale community. I also offer teletherapy sessions. I also am licensed in Illinois)
My focus is to help individuals heal, energize and become aware of their inner strengths. My comfortable demeanor provides a neutral, safe atmosphere while I listen to your concerns and customize a treatment plan for you or your child.
Positive Mind Therapy (PMT) promises to be there for you every step of your journey. PMT's goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, I am able to help you learn coping skills, understand your illness and help you recover motivation, perspective and independence to move on with your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. What may seem like nothing to adults can be grossly exaggerated in a child's/adolescent's mind. Fitting in is very important during these developmental stages. Anxiety, fear and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger in children and especially in adolescents and young adults. Your child may look happy one minute and feel like they are in a crisis the next minute. Being connected electronically 24/7 can contribute greatly to one's emotional instability. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of coping and healing.
Parenting skills can be taught individually with you and/or your significant other or in the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting Class. Learn how to improve your relationship with your child, gain mutual respect, learn natural and logical consequences, gain cooperation, give encouragement and increase your child's self-esteem.
